Michigan DNR Western Upper Peninsula Citizens' Advisory Council to Meet May 23 in Ironwood

The Department of Natural Resources’ Western Upper Peninsula Citizens' Advisory Council (CAC) will meet Monday, May 23 at Gogebic Community College’s Courtside Dining Area on the second floor of Lindquist Student Center, located at E 4946 Jackson Rd. in Ironwood.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Central Time, DNR staff will present division reports and answer questions from council members and the public, followed by the council meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Central Time.

Agenda items include:
  • Northern Lake Michigan Walleye Plan status update 
  • Lake Gogebic Yellow Perch Partnership 
  • Walleyes for Tomorrow, Lake Gogebic chapter 
  • Wildlife Division strategic plan update 
  • Wildlife Division expenses and revenue

In addition, at the request of the CAC members, an informational meeting regarding an overview and explanation of treaty rights will take place from 3-4 p.m. Central Time at the same location.

The Eastern Upper Peninsula and Western Upper Peninsula CACs are designed to advise the DNR on regional programs and policies; identify areas in which the department can be more effective and responsive; and offer insight and guidance from members’ own experiences and constituencies. The council members represent a wide variety of natural resource and recreation stakeholders and interest groups. Agenda items are set by the council members, and council recommendations are forwarded to the DNR for consideration.
